Flounder Moving In

Although we are still targeting redfish and speckled trout, we are catching some nice flounder at most of our favorite holes. In fact, today Dianne Mason caught a whopping 7 pound 7 ounce flounder on a live cocohoe. Of course, flounder above 3 pounds are a rarety. Most of them weigh between 1 and 3 pounds.

The high winds we have had for the past 10 days have made the fishing a little difficult. The SE winds have kept the tides above average and allow the reds to get out of our reach in the marshes. In spite of that we have caught some nice reds on top water plugs and live bait, just in fewer numbers than we are accustomed to this time of year.

We are still catching speckled trout early in the mornings in a few spots, but they disappear around 9 a.m. or so. Most of the trout are 15 to 20 inches.

The menhaden schools are abundant and we are anxious to start using them for live bait. They still need to grow a little more before they will be big enough.
