Mississippi Sound & the Pascagoula River Marsh

Capt. Barry Brown
August 5, 2007
Pascagoula River - Saltwater Fishing Report

Summer Fishing Pattern Is Here

The hot summer days bring with them some difficult fishing days. This time of year more than any other, especially July and August, you will have some days where all conditions seem good but the fish don't bite. You can have the best live bait, fish all your best holes, and end up with nothing but clean ice in your fish box.

One thing that seems to hold true on these slow days is that the fish turn on when the tide change occurs. If there is a spot you have caught fish in recent trips and they don't bite this time, try going back there during the tide change. Remember that the fish may only feed for less than an hour, so be sure you get there on time.

Over the past two weeks we have had some very good trips and others that were slow like described above. Even on the days we had good catches, the fish were caught in a short amount of time and we spent much of the trip with very little action.

Things should start to change beginning in September. In September the specks will start to move into the river in good numbers.
