Mississippi Sound & the Pascagoula River Marsh

Capt. Barry Brown
October 23, 2007
Pascagoula River - Saltwater Fishing Report

School Trout Running

We are now seeing a lot of school trout in the bayous feeding on small minnows. Most days we can catch a good number of them, but most are less than the 14 inch minimum length. They provide a lot of action, though, both on top water and jigs.

There are some larger trout in a few areas of the river, but not in the numbers we usually see by this time of year. These trout are running between 3 and 5 pounds.

The reds were plentiful in one of my favorite holes two weeks ago, but they moved and I have not located any numbers of them since. We are catching a few reds, but we have to keep moving around to find one.

Over the past few days we had several inches of rain that will push fresh water down the river and with it will come all of the trout and reds that have migrated up the river during the drout. This will help our fishing because it will put the fish back into the lower river where we spend most of our time.
