Mississippi Sound & the Pascagoula River Marsh

Capt. Barry Brown
December 16, 2007
Pascagoula River - Saltwater Fishing Report

Redfish Back On Summer Pattern

With water temperatures of 70 degrees, the reds are actively working the skinny water now. We have had highs pushing 80 degrees for several days and that has warmed up the fishing.

Most of the reds have come on live bait while anchored in my favorite spot. We have caught some others trolling the marsh and casting top water plugs or artificial cocohoes. The reds are running mostly in the 5 to 8 pound range, but we have seen a couple around 15 to 20 pounds.

Also with the warmer water we have run across some nice specks in the 3 to 5 pound range. They are not too plentiful, though, and you have to cover a lot of ground to find them.

Yesterday we had a cold front come through that will drop the water temp back down soon. That should drive the fish a little deeper and we will look for them in 8 to 10 feet of water next week.
