Fly Fishermen

The midges (copper johns, zebras) and San juans worms in red or fluorescent pink are still catching trout. When the water is running, the jigs and streamers along with sculpin patterns are catching some nice trout.
Orange egg patterns have become very popular. Some fishermen have even started bead fishing - some will place a bead above a small hook, midge, or tiny worm pattern.

Spin Cast Fishing

The preferred rod and reel set up includes a 6'-6'6" light action rod with 4-6 pound test line.

Quick Tip: After a long rain, some of the river can turn a dirty or milky color, if this happens try a lure with some chartruese.

When fishing with the traditional River Rig the hot baits have been nightcrawlers, redworms, flourescent orange powerbait, pink powerbait worms, and gulp worms.
For those who enjoy fishing with artificial lures (when the water is low) the bouyont, Colorado, and little cleo spoons have been bringing in many trout. For jig fishing the black and olive jigs in 1/8th oz and 1/16th oz will do the trick.

We are beginning to have continuous water to drift fish. Which means swim lures are beginning to catch some really nice trout. Such lures are X-calibur, Countdown Rapalas, Smithwick Rogues, and the Berkley Flicker Shad. Low water days, fishermen should try spoons and spinners and live bait.

The orange powerbait eggs have become a very attractive bait.

Please note that a trophy trout released can be replicated if you have the dimensions and pictures of the fish so that one day someone else can experience a great trophy trout as well.
It is rewarding to see the bait fisherman, fly fisherman, guides, operators and the public working together in the best interest of the White River and it's Trophy Trout fishing program. Just proves what a bit of teamwork will do.

Good luck with your fishing and take a buddy along to make memories for a lifetime.
