Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
10/17/10:
Kimberling City Area: Shorter days and cooler nighttime temperatures have continued to drop water temps throughout the lake. Mid lake temps are still in the low to mid seventy degree range while in the rivers temps have dropped into the upper sixties. Topwater baits continue to produce early and lat eon shallow flats close to deep water; spooks and sammys have been effective before the sun rises above the tree line less than ten feet deep. After the sun rises move out to twenty feet deep on these same points and flats and throw Jewel Football jigs and squirrel heads from ten to twenty feet deep.
James River: The shallow bite up the James River continues to be strong; shallow crankbaits, spinnerbaits and jigs are all producing around shallow cover from the mid James to above Flat Creek. Throw Lucky Craft RC crankbaits in and around laydowns and stumps where shad are present to draw strikes, work the bait as close to the cover as possible. Cedar tops are beginning to produce with Chompers McCutchen spinnerbaits throughout the James, look for isolated cedars in the mouths of pockets, cast beyond the tree and burn the bait back to it pausing slowly in the tree top to draw a strike from suspending fish. Jewel Eakins jig and craw combos fished on transition banks near channel swings in larger creek arms and on the upper main lake.
White River: The White River continues to offer diverse fishing; jigs around boat docks are producing quality and quantity, topwaters early and late will produce vicious strikes and football jigs or Carolina rigs are producing on points and roll offs. Pitch Jewel Eakins jig and craw combos in the shady areas around docks are producing several fish everyday; look for larger community docks close to points to be the most productive. Spooks, sammys and pop r's are producing early in the day on flats and points close to deep water. Once the sun comes up switch up to Jewel football jigs and Carolina rigged lizards or brush hogs and work drop off areas and cover on points throughout the main lake and larger creek arms.
Dam Area: Smallmouth have started to move shallow on the lower end of the lake. Chompers tubes and Jewel football jigs fished on lighter line will draw strikes from these fish on shallow gravel points and flats. Docks are becoming more important as water temperatures fall and fish begin to follow shad back into the creek arms. A combination of baits have been working on docks on the lower end; War Eagle three quarter ounce spoons have been very effective on deep docks while Jewel Eakins jig and craw combos have been working on shallow docks.
