Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
10/31/10:
Kimberling City Area: With the freezing night time temperatures over the past week water temperatures around the lake have dropped as much as five degrees in a week. With the drop in temps bait fish and fish are on the move to shallows making them easier to catch. Several good shallow bites shaped up at the end of last week; Jewel Football and spider jigs, Chompers tubes and spinnerbaits have all been producing in the mid lake. Chunk rock banks with ledges on them have been producing in larger creek arms early and late, throw three eighth ounce Jewel football jigs with J tail trailers to the bank and work them out across drops and ledges to twenty feet deep. Pea gravel points are producing smallmouth on Chompers tubes fished on quarter ounce heads, throw the bait shallow and drag it out to fifteen feet to draw strikes. Lastly Chompers spinnerbaits are starting to produce good fish around isolated cedar trees on steep rocky banks.
James River: The coolest water on the lake is in the James River, morning water temps in the low sixties have move fish shallow early and late in search of crawdads and schools of shad. Shallow crankbaits, spinnerbaits and Jewel jigs are all producing throughout the day on the upper James and in the larger creeks of the mid James River. Look for shallow wood and rock cover to hold most of the fish on rocky banks, make multiple casts to from different angles with Lucky Craft RC crankbaits or Chompers McCutchen spinnerbaits in and around the cover to draw strikes. Once the sun rises pitch Jewel Eakins jig and craw combos to the same cover concentrating on shady areas around the cover.
White River: The bite on the White River continues to be strong and diverse; Jewel Squirrel Heads, Football and Spider jigs, Chompers Tubes and Spinnerbaits, Carolina rigged lizards and brush hogs and Spoons all produce throughout the White River. From Baxter to Campbell point Jewel jigs and Chompers Tubes are king; look for long tapering gravel points and work these baits from five to twenty feet deep. Jewel Squirrel heads with finesse worms fished on ledge banks in the larger creek arms will produce a mixed bag of largemouth and spotted bass. Chompers McCutchen spinner baits worked around isolated cedar trees from Shell Knob to Eagle Rock have been very effective for better quality fish on windy or cloudy days. Finally Carolina rigged lizards and brush hogs worked on gravel roll offs are still effective through the middle of the day.
Dam Area: Smallmouth!!!!! Cooler water temperatures have hastened the migration of smallmouth to shallow gravel points throughout the lower end. Jewel Spider jigs, Squirrel Heads and Chompers tubes are extremely effective right now from five to fifteen feet on long tapering gravel points. Windy points tend to hold fish shallower than calm ones. The deep dock bite is still strong on the lower end as well, Jewel Eakins jig and craw combos worked from five to twenty feet deep and War Eagle spoons worked to fifty feet deep have been extremely effective on large community and condo docks.
