Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
9/5/11:
Kimberling City Area: Shorter days in the past few weeks have lowered water temperatures significantly. The cold front that moved in late on Sunday should drop temperatures more and in turn move fish shallower than they have been since early July. Over the past week in the mod lake area smallmouth have moved up on shallow flat points close to deep water and can be caught on Jewel football jigs and Chompers tubes early and late. Look for fish to be holding around thirty feet deep and moving up to ten to fifteen during low light hours.
James River: The dirty water of the upper James has benefited most by the shorter days; water temps have dropped as much as eight degrees by early morning but will heat back up by late afternoon. At day break there has been a very good topwater bite on shallow flats adjacent to deep channel cut in the upper reaches of the river, Flat Creek and other major creeks. Spooks, sammys and pop-r's have been the baits of choice with fish pinning shad close to the bank. A the day wears on shallow crankbaits like RC ‘s and other squarebills have been effective on visible cover on these same banks.
White River: Much like the mid lake smallmouth have begun to move up shallower in the White River from Shell Knob to Baxter, the same presentations are effective on these fish. Spotted bass have moved into the deeper brush piles on these same points, locate brush in twenty five to thirty five feet of water and drop Chompers or ROBO dropshot worms into the pile to draw strikes. Pay close attention as a fish comes out of the brush as more are likely to follow. In the Kings River the same topwater / squarebill patterns that are working in the Jams have been effective on mudflats above Viola.
Dam Area: The last weekend of ridiculous boat traffic is behind us; while traffic at the dam will continue to be busy on the weekends it won't be close to what we've delt with over the past three months. The shorter days have lowered water temps on the lower end as well with average temperatures in the mid eighties. Much like the mid lake smallmouth have begun to appear on gravel flats early and late in the day; Jewel football and spider jigs have been the best options to target these fish. In the upper reaches of Long creek the same shallow crankbait and topwater patterns working in the James river are becoming more and more effective.
