Kimberling City Area: The migration of shad into the creek arms continues and fish can be found following bait fish. The best bite continues to be on chunk rock and mixed gravel and rock secondary points in the larger creeks. On windy or cloudy days Wiggle Warts and Chompers spinnerbaits are the best option, work either around wood and cover to draw strikes. On calm days a Jewel football or Squirrel head jig will catch these same fish. The smallmouth bite on gravel has been hit or miss, the fish seem to be moving up to feed early and late and then disappearing into deep water once the sun comes up.
James River: The dirtier water of the James has fish holding much shallower than the rest of the lake. Chompers McCutchen spinnerbaits have been the ticket on windy days around wood cover on gravel and mud flats with RC crankbaits taking a close second. On calm days a Jewel Eakins jig and craw combo around shallow wood cover and docks is producing both numbers and quality.
White River: The White River remains hot, fish are being caught from the bank to 40' deep on a variety of presentations. Much like the mid lake windy days are the time to throw a Chompers Spinnerbait or Wiggle Wart on rock and mixed rock / gravel points. Calm days a Jewel football or Squirrel head jig will produce on the same locations. The deep bite for spots has turned on as well, look for trees in the middle of creek arms with shad close by to be the most productive; a Webb tail spoon or Chompers drop shot worm are your best options.
Dam Area: The dam area is slowly improving; more and more smallmouth have moved up on to shallow gravel points and flats, target these fish with Jewel spider jigs and Chompers tubes. The Wiggle Wart and Spinnerbait bite is still slow but a few fish can be caught when the wind is blowing. The drop shot bite has improved greatly with the drop in temperature, look for deep trees topping out around 40' and work them over with brown / purple or plum Chompers worms.
