Kimberling City Area: A little bit of everything this past week; decent rainfall, cooler temperatures and fairly consistent generation has the lake in a predictable early winter pattern. The deep bite is the most productive if you are looking for numbers and a few quality fish, Chompers drop shot worms and Webb Tail spoons have been top performers for fish located in the larger deeper creeks. Look for schools of shad holding around 40 -50 feet deep over as much as 100' and schools of Kentuckies will be close by. The shallow bite hasn't gone anywhere, it is still very good with wiggle warts and Jewel jigs catching most of the fish.
James River: The shallow bite on the James has been very good over the past week; the mid James from Hide Away up to Cape Fair has been the best area with quality fish coming on bluff end and rocky banks with wind on them. Key on the transition areas where rock changes over to gravel, paying close attention to any spots with ledge rock mixed with gravel. Wiggle warts in brown craw and green pumpkin have been top choices, Jewel football and Eakins jigs are working well when the wind is calm or the sun is shining.
White River: Deep or shallow the White River arms is hot right now. Schools of spots are holding in the creek arms and can be caught between 40' – 60' on Chompers drop shot worms and Webb Tail spoons, find the shad and you will find the fish. Largemouth are holding on rocky main lake and secondary points and a Wiggle Wart worked parallel to the bank in 10' or less will fool them. Main lake gravel has been giving up a few smallmouth as well; Jewel Football and Spider jigs with J tail trailers or Chompers tubes have bee producing on gravel close to deep water.
Dam Area: The deep bite continues to dominate on the lower end; schools of shad are holding in the ‘guts' of larger creek arms and spots and largemouth are gorging themselves daily. Chompers drop shot worms in brown / purple or plum have been very effective as has the Webb Tail spoon. Look for schools of bait and the fish will not be far away, fish that are holding shallower seem to be more active right now, look for those holding around 40' to be the easiest to catch. Jewel Eakins jigs are working for better quality fish around larger boat docks, look for docks on or near points to be the most productive and make pitches as close to the center walkway paying close attention to the jig as it falls as most of the fish will hit before the jig reaches the bottom.
