Kimberling City Area: The recent cold snap and snow has lowered water temperatures over the past week. O average temps remain in the upper 40's in the main lake and the rivers are a little colder averaging in the low to mid 40's. The bite in the mid lake has remained strong despite to cooler temperatures; still a strong shallow bite 10' – 15' deep on Jewel football and spider jigs, wiggle warts and Bandit 300's. The deep bite actually benefited from the cooler temps moving bait and fish off shore and tightening schools of both shad and fish. Chompers Webb Tail spoons and drop shot worms are the best baits.
James River: The water temperature in the James is the lowest on the lake right now, on average in the mid James it is in the mid 40's, further upstream low 40's can be found early in the day. The shallow bite is strong here as well; Jewel football and spider jigs on steep rocky banks 10' – 15' deep have been hard to beat. On windy days wiggle warts, bandit 300's and SPRO McSticks have all been producing on rocky banks and points.
White River: Much like the mid lake the shallow bite remains strong on the White River. Add to the Jewel Jig and crankbait patterns a Float N Fly. The best bite on the Float n Fly has been on steep rocky banks and bluff ends where fish are suspended over anywhere from 30' – 80' of water. The best bite has been with a 10' – 12' leader and a Punisher 1/16 oz. jig in threadfin or The Duck. Once you catch a fish on a Float n Fly make sure to work an area over thoroughly as these fish tend to be schoolers. The deep bite is still strong as well, Webb Tail spoons and drop shot rigs are accounting for most of the fish in larger creek arms from Baxter to Big M.
Dam Area: The deep bite remains strong on the lower end look for schools of bait in the bigger creek arms and around main lake humps and points. Most of the fish are suspended between 35' – 55' in and close to tree tops. Chompers Webb Tail spoons, drop shot worms and Rapala ice jigs have been the most effective presentations. The Float n Fly rig has been effective on the lower end as well; same locals and baits have been very effective. The deep dock bite is still very productive; Jewel Eakins jig and craw combos worked close to the center walk way of large community docks is producing quality smallmouth and largemouth.
