Table Rock Lake in Branson, MO Fishing Report

Capt. Eric Prey
October 12, 2010
Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
10/10/10:
Kimberling City Area: Water temperatures have dropped into the lower seventies over the past week, cooler temps have moved fish into the shallows early and late in the day. During low light hours spooks sammys and other topwater baits have been effective on flats and flat gravel points, look for schools of shad in the shallows to find the fish. As the sun comes up move out to twenty feet deep and throw Jewel football jigs and Squirrel heads with finesse worms on drops and around cover in ten to fifteen feet deep.

James River: The best bite has been shallow up the James River; square bill crankbaits, spinnerbaits and topwaters have all been effective in shallow cuts and covers with wood cover. Look for bait fish moving toward the back of these creeks and coves, when the baitfish are close to the cover the bite can be fantastic. Work shallow running baits into and around cover to draw strikes, make multiple casts from different angles. Down the lake Jewel football jigs worked on drops and gravel points from ten to twenty feet deep will produce quantity and quality.

White River: The bite on the White River continues to be diverse; topwater baits are very effective early and late, shallow crankbaits and spinnerbaits around shallow cover in the backs of creeks and coves, Eakins jigs around docks and cedars and spoons over deep water. Look for shallow wood cover toward the back of shallow coves and cuts and throw square bill crankbaits and McCutchen spinnerbaits close to cover to draw strikes. On sunny calm days work shady areas of docks with Eakins jig and craw combos, PB&J or brown purple flash with green pumpkin Eakins craws close to floats and walk ways will produce quality fish.

Dam Area: the thermocline has broken up throughout the lake making the deep bite tough on the lower end. The good news is the smallmouth have moved shallow and can be caught on a variety of baits; Chompers tubes, Jewel football and spider jigs and Squirrel heads have all been effective this past week targeting smallmouth on gravel flats and points fifteen to twenty five feet deep. Work these baits slowly along the bottom paying close attention to any cover or drops encountered during the retrieve.
