Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
1/3/11:
Kimberling City Area: Storms late in the week dropped almost an inch of warm rain through out the area last week, despite the colder air temperatures once the front passed the warm rain maintained the water temperatures in the mid to upper forties in the mid lake. Warm run off drove shad toward the backs of larger creeks and in turn fish followed. Storm Wiggle Warts and SPRO McSticks are very productive in and around the schools of shad in the back of these creeks, steeper banks have been more productive than flats and any wood cover will hold several fish.
James River: Allot more color in the James with all of the rain and run off, because of the stain sunny days have been better than cloudy ones, the sun warms the shallow dirty water quickly and fish have been moving shallow following bait fish moving up into the warmer water. Jewel Eakins and Football jigs worked around shallow wood cover on sunny days have been the best option, make multiple pitches to each piece of cover hitting every shad spot in the cover. In the Aunts Creek area shad have moved toward the back of the creek and fish can be taken in and around the shad on SPRO McSticks and slow rolled Chompers McCutchen spinnerbaits.
White River: The shallow and deep bite bites are both productive throughout the White River; Schools of shad can be found from the shallows in the backs of creeks to sixty feet deep in the "guts" of creeks. SPRO McSticks and Wiggle Warts have been very effective toward the back of larger creek arms in and around wood cover or boat docks, look for schools of shad close to the surface to help locate the fish. Further out use electronics to locate schools of shad holding near deep trees or channel bends and drop War Eagle spoons to fish holding below the school.
Dam Area: The deep bite has taken over the lower end of the lake, there are still a few fish holding shallow on rocky channel banks on windy and cloudy days but the deep bite has become much more predictable and reliable. Look for schools of shad holding in and near the "guts" of larger creek arms once shad are located drop War Eagle spoons below the shad to waiting bass. If no fish are seen electronics drop the spoon to the bottom trying to draw fish up off the bottom. Most of the fish this past week have been holding either on the bottom or close to it in and around trees or other cover.
