Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
1/9/11:
Kimberling City Area: Not allot of changes over the past week; seasonal temperatures maintained above average water temps over the past week and held fish in relatively the same positions as last week. Still several fish holding fairly shallow on steeper rocky banks; wiggle warts and SPRO McStick jerkbaits worked on windy days will produce fish close to wood cover on these banks. On sunny days look for fish to be holding close to shady areas of large community docks, Jewel Eakins jig and craw combos work well on these fish from ten to thirty feet deep.
James River: The stained water from last week's rain has washed out of the James this past week. Clearer and colder water has driven fish deeper through out the river. Look for fish to be holding on steeper banks and bluffs on the main lake and in the larger creek arms; SPRO McStick jerkbaits have been effective around isolated wood cover on these banks, allow the bait to rest five seconds between jerks to draw strikes. Jewel Eakins and football jigs with J – tail or Eakins craw trailers worked from the bank into the creek channel will draw strikes from less active fish.
White River: The deep bite has been very good from Baxter to Campbell point; large schools of shad have been moving from the backs of creek to the main channel and schools of spotted bass have been following and feeding on them. War Eagle spoons and Little George type baits have been very effective on these fish. Find the bait and fish will be close by. Further up stream fish can be found shallow on steeper banks on both the main lake and in the creek arms, wiggle warts and McSticks are working very well on windy days, make repeated casts to shallow cover to draw strikes. On calm days Eakins jig and craw combos are your best bet.
Dam Area: The deep bite remains the top pattern on the lower end; look for schools of shad in the "guts" of creeks from forty to sixty feet deep, spotted bass will be holding close to the bottom below these schools until triggered to feed. If active fish are below the school of bait drop War Eagle spoons in front of active fish to draw strikes. If no active fish are seen on electronics drop the spoon to the bottom and hop it several times off the bottom to draw strikes. Above Cricket Creek in the Long Creek arm the winter crappie bite has begun, several fish are being caught on eighth ounce white marabou jigs or swimmin' minnows in and near brush and cedar tops.
