Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
1/16/11:
Kimberling City Area: Water temperatures dropped significantly this past week so much so that ice formed in the back of several creeks by the weekend. The colder temperatures moved most of the fish that were holding shallow off of the bank and into deeper water. In the mid lake area the best bite has been the deep bite; War Eagle Spoons and Rapala Ice baits have been the best options, look for schools of shad in the center of larger creeks and the fish won't be far away. Jewel Eakins jig and craw combos have still been effective around larger docks, with most of the fish coming from twenty five to forty feet deep near the bottom.
James River: The coldest water on the lake is in the James River right now, by the end of the week ice had formed in the back of most of the creeks and there was a ring of ice around the bank in the upper reaches of the river. The bite has been fairly slow with most fish coming on Jewel Eakins jig and craw combos worked in and around deeper brush piles on channel swing banks in the larger creeks and the main river channel. A few reports of good crappie fishing from Cape Fair to Flat creek, with the majority of fish coming out of brush piles around docks on deeper banks.
White River: The colder water has made the deep bite your most consistent option in the White River. War Eagle spoons worked close to schools of bait from forty to sixty feet deep in the larger creek arms has been the ticket, find the bait and you will find fish close by. SPRO McSticks and Lucky Craft Pointers have been producing a few fish as well, steeper banks with isolated trees are the best locations, work the bait to the tree and allow it to sit for ten to twenty seconds before moving it to draw strikes. Any locations with dieing shad need to be worked over with a jerkbait right now.
Dam Area: Look for birds to fish the bait on the lower end right now; gulls, loons and herons will all clue you into areas holding bait and in turn holding fish. Once the bait is located schools of spotted bass will be close by, War Eagle spoons and Rapala Ice Baits will produce around the schools of bait. Pass close attention to electronics when working an area with bait as many times fish will only come off the bottom briefly until a bait is presented to them.
