Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
3/21/11:
Kimberling City Area: Despite warmer weather over the past week water temperatures remained fairly constant in the upper forties throughout the mid lake. Three primary patterns continue to be strong in the Kimberling City area of the lake; Storm wiggle warts, Jewel jigs and Chompers single tail grubs are all effective for putting numbers and quality in the boat. Steep channel swing banks have been the best locations to throw a wiggle wart, position the boat seven to ten feet deep and parallel these banks. On windy days a four inch Chompers single tail smoke grub on a quarter ounce head will produce fish on rocky points on both the main lake and in larger creek arms. Finally, a Jewel half ounce football jig with a J tail trailer will produce on rocky banks through out the lake.
James River: The stained water of the James River has warmed more than the rest of the lake over the past week, water temperatures from the upper forties to mid fifties are common and fish are moving into the shallows. Jewel Eakins and J Lock jigs worked carefully around shallow wood cover will produce numbers and quality on sunny calm days. Steeper channel swing banks paralleled with a wiggle wart on windy days has been very productive. Finally, further up stream a Chompers McCutchen spinnerbait slow rolled around shallow wood cover has been producing in the dirtiest water available.
White River: The White River remained strong over the past week; wiggle warts, stickbaits and grubs have remained strong options from Baxter to the Kings River. Much like the rest of the lake look for steeper banks to be the most productive areas with wiggle warts, windy flat points are best with grubs and stickbaits. In the Kings River a McCutchen Spinnerbait has really started to shine, look for isolated pieces of wood cover and slow roll the bait around the cover from a variety of angle to draw strikes.
Dam Area: The lower end has had a great bite over the past week; Chompers single tail grubs and Storm wiggle warts have been the stars of the show with a SPRO McStick earning a top spot as well. Look for steep rocky banks to be key locations for a wiggle wart, wind on these banks will increase strikes but even calms days will produce. Deep rocky points with isolated trees are producing with a Chompers single tail grub; look for trees that top out around twenty feet and make long cast beyond the tree. Allow the bait to fall to the tree top depth and then make a moderate retrieve through the tree tops to draw strikes. Finally, on windy days a SPRO McStick fished on steeper rocky points will draw strikes from fish moving up from deep water to feed.
