Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
4/19/11:
Kimberling City Area: After the big rise in water temperature lat week the cold front that brought sever weather to the area crashed temps back into the upper fifties throughout the mid lake. While there are still a few bucks holding on beds the majority have gone back into cruising mode waiting for water temperatures to rise again. Jewel Squirrel heads with finesse worms and split shot rigged lizards are both effective in the mouths of spawning coves. Toward the backs of these same coves a weightless Salty Sinker is tough to beat.
James River: Although it warms faster the James River also cools faster than any other part of the lake. By the weekend water temperatures had rebounded to the lower sixties and fish could be seen holding tighter to beds than right after the front came through. At this time most of the fish still haven't spawned but they are very close with females hanging just below nests. Sight fishing should be good in the James from the middle of the week in as long as the weather cooperates, a big front or allot of rain could delay this bite for a few more days.
White River: The White River has been the most stable portion of the lake for the last week; even with the temperature drop the fish have held close to their spawning locations and can be seen over nests or cruising close by. Split shot rigged french fries and lizards have been the ticket for the fish holding on gravel, work the bait from six to fifteen feet deep slowly along the bottom to draw strikes. On mixed rock and gravel banks switch to a Jewel Squirrel head and worm combo.
Dam Area: Jus like the rest of the lake water temperatures dropped significantly in the dam area after the front came through. Fish have back off away from their nests but can still be caught. Like the rest of the lake a split shot rig is key to putting fish in the boat right now. A Chompers four inch single tail grub in smoke / red has also been very effective, rig the bait on a quarter ounce ball head and swim it on pea gravel points. Keep the grub close to the bottom through out the retrieve to draw strikes.
