Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
5/7/11:
Kimberling City Area: The Corps of Engineers seem to have a handle on water levels, current lake level is 930.6 and the lake is dropping about five inches per day. Falling water level has held most of the fish out of the flooded bushes for the most part, the old bank line has been the most productive depth through out the lake with Jewel jigs and Squirrel Heads producing better than just about any other bait. Look for mixed rock and gravel banks and work baits from twelve to twenty feet deep to draw strikes.
James River: Despite falling water fish in the James River have moved into the shallows and begun feeding around flooded bushes, trees and just about any other cover in the water. Chompers McCutchen spinnerbaits have been a key bait around flooded cover, while fish have moved up don't expect them to be much shallower than five feet, work the outside bushes first before barreling deep into cover. In the mid James a Jewel football jig has been hard to beat; look for mixed gravel and rock banks and work the bait along the bottom from ten to twenty feet deep.
White River: The biggest news on the White River has been the topwater bite, early and late spooks, sammys and Red fins have been producing in standing timber and above the old bank line near flooded bushes. Current from both dams has made points and pockets on the main lake more productive than in the creek arms. During low light hours work both baits as close to cover as possible. Things have finally started to settle up the Kings River, while debris is still an issue early in the day the river is much easier to run and has been productive with Chompers Spinnerbaits and Jewel J Lock jigs work around deeper cover in pockets and coves.
Dam Area: The "mud line" has reached as far as point seven and will continue to color the water from Kimberling to the dam. Main lake gravel and mixed points have been producing numbers and quality over the past week, work Jewel Pro Spider jigs and Squirrel heads with finesse worms near thee old bank line to draw strikes. From Old 86 to the upper end of Long Creek the water is extremely muddy; black and blue Jewel jigs, black neon Chompers tubes and McCutchen spinnerbaits have been the most productive baits worked in and around flooded cover eight to twelve feet deep.
