Kimberling City Area: More rain and devastating weather over the weekend have raised water levels to the point the Corps of Engineers has had to re – open flood gate on the dam to control potential flooding. The increased current has made the point bite the dominate pattern with Jewel Spider and football jigs and Chompers Ultra tubes have been key baits for smallmouth and spotted bass. Key on the old bank line around fifteen feet deep to catch these fish. With water levels rising there has been a good shallow largemouth bite in flooded bushes, Jewel Eakins jigs, Chompers tubes and creature baits are all effective in and around bushes.
James River: Just as the water had begun to clear on the James River heavy rain in the water shed has muddied the water in the upper end again. Flooded bushes have been key for Largemouth that dominate the James, Chompers spinnerbaits and Jewel Swim Jigs have been great options around flooded cover. Windy days have been better for the spinnerbait and calm days are better with a swim jig, allow the jig to fall in shady areas around bushes to draw strikes. Further down stream the point bite has been key, Jewel Jigs and Chompers tubes are the best options.
White River: Allot of flow through the White River, the flood gates are open on Beaver Dam and current from run off coming out of the Kings River has water flowing fast through out the White. Points have been key with fish using down stream edges to ambush forage as the current brings it by. Jewel Spider and Football jigs, Chompers Ultra tubes and Carolina rigged brush hogs and lizards are all effective presentations on these points. Shallow bushes are producing fish as well, flipping Chompers Tubes and Wild Hogs tight to cover on sunny days will produce quality and quantity.
Dam Area: The Smallmouth bite continues to be the best option on the lower end; Jewel Spider jigs with J Tail trailers and Chompers Ultra Tubes have been the most productive baits on the old bank line of points throughout the lower end. Squirrel heads will also produce with finesse worm trailers on these points closer to the flooded bushes and trees. There is a small window for topwater early and late close to and in the flooded trees, it will late from around first light to sun up and again at sundown to dark, look for fish to be back in the trees chasing shad near the bank.
