Table Rock Lake in Branson, MO Report

Capt. Eric Prey
July 31, 2011
Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
7/31/11:
Kimberling City Area: Work is complete on the Power Site dam on Taneycomo and the current flow to meet power needs started back up over the past week dropping Table Rock levels below seasonal pool by the end of the week. While current is great for positioning fish on points throughout the lake it has draw the majority of the fish into deeper water and eliminating most of the shallow bite in the mid lake area. Jewel football jigs with J tail trailers and Chompers wobble head football jigs matched with finesse worms or brush hogs have been dominate baits over the past week,; look for fish to be close to deep water on roll off points moving up to shallow water to feed through out the day. Work both baits from shallow to deep to draw strikes.

James River: Current has helped the deep crankbait bite up the river; DD 22, Fat Free shad and Rapala DT 16 crankbaits run into deep brush and rock piles have been very effective on roll off points and drops on the edge of flats. Make multiple long casts from a variety angles o draw strikes from fish holding in the cover. This type of fishing is a timing issue, successful anglers will have a "milk run" of five or more spots and will work them through out the day trying to get the timing right. Further up stream the shallow crankbait bite is starting to emerge; RC crankbaits around laydowns and other shallow cover are yielding mostly smaller fish right now.

White River: The same patterns that are working in the mid lake and James River have been effective on the White River over the past week. Add to that mix a decent deep bite and fish can be caught from ten to fifty feet deep through out the White. Deep fish are coming from the ends of deep gravel points on the main lake and major creek arms on the White, look for fish holding tight to the bottom from thirty five to sixty feet deep. Chompers and ROBO drop shot worms have been the most effective offerings in purple or green hues. Look for fish holding tight to the bottom and drop rigs directly in front of them to draw strikes.

Dam Area: Between the boat traffic and the warm temperatures the lower end has remained the most challenging area of the lake over the past week. Chompers and ROBO drop shot worms will catch fish in the same locals as on the White River but dealing with pleasure boaters makes this difficult. Up Long Creek the bite is much better, the creek is fishing like a smaller version of the James River with deep crankbaits and Jewel football jigs producing fish on channel swings and roll offs.
