Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
8/14/11:
Kimberling City Area: The small amount of rain and cooler temperatures over the past week has helped the bite throughout the lake. In the mid lake area the deep bite continues to produce with Chompers and ROBO drop shot worms twenty – five to forty feet deep on roll off gravel points. Look for schools of shad near these points and the fish will close by holding to the bottom or in brush piles. A few smallmouth have been moving shallower with the cooler temps as well; Jewel Football and Spider jigs worked along the bottom twenty to thirty feet deep on mixed rock and gravel points have been the best pattern early and late.
James River: The extra current generated by run off has helped the James River. Fish are holding a little shallower as the water has gained a little color, Chompers wobble head football jigs and Jewel football jigs have been producing well on gravel roll offs near deeper water from the mid – James to Cape Fair. The deep crankbait bite benefited from the current as well with several fish coming out of brush and rock piles near deep water through out the James River. The shallow crankbait has picked up but doesn't seem to be as productive as deeper techniques right now.
White River: Deep or shallow the White River improved last week. Deep anglers are finding schools of Spotted bass holding on deep edges of roll off points waiting for current to bring them schools of shad. Chompers drop shot worms worked along the bottom thirty to fifty feet deep will produce when fish are found. Jewel football jigs, Chompers wobble Head jigs and Carolina rigs are all producing fish in these same locations particularly early and late in the day. Further up the Kings River ten inch worms have been very effective in brush piles and other shallow cover.
Dam Area: Hopefully this was the last week until Labor Day of ridiculous boat traffic in the dam area. This past week you needed to be off the water or in the back of creek by ten am or you were taking your life in your hands. The deep bite remained the most productive with Chompers and ROBO drop shot worms worked along the bottom thirty to fifty feet deep responsible for most of the action. Up Long Creek there has been a very good deep crankbait bite around brush and rock piles and a very good topwater bite early and late on the flattest banks you can find.
