Table Rock Lake in Branson, MO Fishing Report

Capt. Eric Prey
August 20, 2011
Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
8/20/11:
Kimberling City Area: Cooler temperatures over the week have lower water temperatures to the mid to upper eighties. With cooler temps fish have moved slightly shallower particularly early and late. Jewel football jigs and Chomper wobble head football jigs with creature baits have been very effective, look for most of the fish to be on the shallow side of roll off points early and late with most of the action taking place less than twenty feet deep. The deep bite as gotten better, with fish moving into brush piles and tree tops thirty to forty feet deep. Chompers and ROBO drop shot worms have been the most effective presentation when fished deep inside the cover.

James River: Large numbers of small fish have begun to push shad to the bank on shallow flats in the upper James. Catching numbers on topwaters or squrebills is not a problem but quality has been lacking. Early and late better fish can be caught in these areas on a spook or sammy; look for fish to close to shallow cover waiting for shad to come into range. Further down stream the deep crankbait bite continues to improve with both numbers and quality coming from brush and rock piles near deep water. Run the bait into the cover from a variety of angles until you find the "sweet spot".

White River: The White River is still producing fish deep and shallow; deep fish have been on the move coming up from deeper depths to brush piles and tree tops in thirty to forty feet. Chompers drop shot worms fish inside of brush piles has produced some very nice spotted bass this past week. Smallmouth and largemouth have been coming off of gravel roll off points from Baxter to Eagle Rock. Most of the fish are being caught twenty to twenty five feet deep close to the roll off edge. Jewel football jigs in PB&J with a green pumpkin J Tail trailer has been the most effective bait with a Chompers wobble head creature bait combo holding a close second.

Dam Area: Boat traffic was down significantly over the past week making fishing much easier and thankfully much better over the past week. The best bite continues to be deep, fish have started to move into bush piles and tree tops twenty to thirty feet deep. Chompers and ROBO drop shot worms worked inside the cover will produce a mixed bag of spots and largemouth. Early and late smallmouth have been moving up on gravel flats to feed in low light times of the day. Jewel spider jigs and Chompers tubes have been producing fifteen to twenty feet deep on the deeper side of flat points throughout the lower end.
