Table Rock - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock
8/28/11:
Kimberling City Area: Cooler temperatures and shorter days are dropping water temperatures throughout the lake; median afternoon surface temps are in the mid eighties and fish have begun to move a little more each week. Smallmouth have begun to appear on gravel and mixed gravel points through out the mid lake area primarily early and late; Jewel football and spider jigs worked along the bottom fifteen to twenty feet deep will produce both numbers and quality. Deeper brush piles around the thirty foot mark are producing spotted bass on drop shot rigged Chompers and ROBO worms.
James River: With the cooler temperatures largemouth have begun to prowl the shallows early and late in the day in the upper James. Sammys, spooks and pop r's are producing quality fish chasing shad on shallow flats near deep water. Key on any flooded bushes or laydowns close to deeper water and ditches on flats. As the day wears on switch to square bill crankbaits and run the bait into any cover on the flat to draw strikes. Further down stream flat points near deep water will produce through out the day; Jewel football jigs and Chompers wobble head jigs matched with creatures baits are top producers.
White River: Depending on which portion of the White River you are fishing productive depths range from a few inches to over a hundred feet deep. Shallow angers are catching fish on Jewel spider and football jigs or squirrel heads on gravel and mixed gravel and rock banks from Campbell point to Eagle Rock. Look for points that have a deep "roll off" side to be the most productive and work jigs from shallow into the deep. Topwater and square bill crankbaits are producing around shallow cover in the Kings River and in the backs of bigger creeks in the upper White. In the Baxter area deep trees topping out around thirty feet will produce spotted bass on Chompers or ROBO drops hot worms.
Dam Area: One more weekend of high boat traffic and the dam area will be back to normal. The bite has improved on the lower end with spotted bass moving in to deeper brush piles and tree tops, the key depth has been around thirty feet deep with Chompers and ROBO drop shot worms catching most of the fish. There has been a dock bite beginning to emerge in some of the creek arms, bigger commercial docks have been holding most of the fish with Chompers Webb Tail spoons working on the deeper ends of the docks; pitch the spoon to the center walk way and allow it to fall on semi slack line paying close attention as it falls as most of the stikes will come on the fall.
