Kimberling City Area: After almost a full week of the Corps of Engineers running four units 24/7 lake levels are back at seasonal power pool. Water temperatures have settled in the low to mid 60's and fish have begun spawning throughout the lake. Fish can be caught on beds in gravel cuts and coves, Chompers or Tightlines UV tubes or UV Craws have been very effective. Tightlines Big Fat Jerk soft jerkbaits are working on points leading into spawning areas. Throw the bait weightless on a 4/0 EWG hook, allow it to sink around 5' and give it a couple of twitches. Most of the bites are nothing more than your line going tight so keep slack out of your line and watch it closely to hook up.
James River: The spawn is in full swing on the James, fish are on beds throughout the river. Chompers and Tightlines tubes have been very effective on fish locked on their beds. The Big Fat Jerk bite has been good u the river as well, the same set up and retrieve has been very effective on points and around standing timber. Jewel football jigs have been working very well around flooded wood cover in the upper James and Flat Creek. Pitch 3/8 oz. black blue flash jigs with J tail trailers or Eakins craws in shady areas around wood to be effective.
White River: The spawn is hot on the White River as well, clearer water makes seeing beds and fish much easier here than most of the lake. Tightlines and Chompers Tubes, Tightlines craws and Beavers have all been effective when targeting bedding fish. Still a few fish being caught shallow on an umbrella rig, down size your weight and bait size and work the bait over shallow points near spawning coves. The Kings River still has pretty good color even with dropping water levels; Jewel Finesse Flippin jigs and Football jigs in black blue flash and brown black have been very effective around log jams and other shallow wood.
Dam Area: Plenty of fish on beds on the lower end as well though they are spawning a bit deeper than the rest of the lake. Look for beds to be 10' deep or deeper if you are targeting spawning fish. The Tightlines Big Fat Jerk bite is on very strong on the lower end; big smallmouth and spots have been cruising 15' deep or less on points near spawning pocket and have been aggressively feeding on shad and bluegill. Jewel squirrel heads with Tightlines beavers and finesse worms have been working on these points as well; drag the bait along the bottom from 10' – 20' deep.
