Kimberling City: There is no doubt that summer is upon us. Water temperatures in the low 80's and fish holding deep, it is clear that fish have moved into a full blown summer pattern. In the mid lake the deep bite has taken hold with most of the fish being caught 25' – 35' deep on drop shot rigs worked close to the bottom. Chompers, ROBO and Tight Lines UV drop shot worms have been the ticket , work the rig along the bottom and in brush or rock piles on main lake gravel points.
James River: Jewel football jigs have been the dominate bait on the James River this past week. Most of the fish are coming out of brush piles 12'- 20' deep on main lake and secondary points. Work brown purple flash jigs with a J-Tail, Paca chunk or baby brush hog as a trailer. Most of the bites will come from shady portions of brush piles, when fish is caught pay close attention to the angle of retrieve and depth the fish was holding in. Big worms are starting to work as well, plum or red bug Texas rigged 10" worms worked through the same brush have been producing as well.
White River: The White continues to produce with a variety of patterns. Early and late there is a good topwater bite on long tapering points, cast spooks and sammies
To surfacing fish while the bite lasts. Once the sun comes up the deep bite will produce in these same locations, drop shot rigs and Webb Tail spoons continue to produce from 25' – 35' deep. Jewel football jigs in green pumpkin green flash have been very productive around brush and rock piles from 20 ‘ -30' deep. Much like in the James River the bite is better in shady portions of the brush and rock.
Dam Area: The deep pattern still dominates the lower end, most of the fish have been holding tight to the bottom on gravel points and flats from 25' – 35' deep. Chompers, ROBO and Tightlines UV worms on a drop shot rig is still a solid pattern producing nice stringers of spotted bass throughout the lower end. Schools of white bass have been hit or miss on the lower end, moving as much as a couple of miles a day following schools of shad. Watch for surface activity early and cast Webb Tail spoons into the fray to draw strikes.
