Branson Area: Fishing guide trips remain strong; fish have moved into typical summer locations on the lower end and can be caught with typical summer patterns. Drop shot rigged soft plastics have been the best option; Tightlines UV, Chompers and ROBO worms worked on gravel points and flats have been producing numbers and quality throughout the Branson area. Look for fish to be holding from 28'- 40' deep tight to the bottom or in brush piles. Pay close attention to electronics when a fish is hooked, others will usually follow the fish off the bottom giving a good indication how many fish are in a given area.
Kimberling City: Much like Branson fishing guide trips Kimberling city is still dominated by the deep bite. The same drop shot techniques have proven effective in the mid lake. There are some better fish beginning to show up on larger boat docks throughout Kimberling City, Chompers Webb Tail spoons pitched into deep stalls have produced some good quality fish over the last week. Key on docks 35' deep or deeper, allow the bait to fall to the bottom on a semi slack line and work it back to the boat giving it a couple of jerks every ten or fifteen feet. Pay close attention as the spoon falls as most of the bites have been coming on the fall.
James River: The lack of current in the James has really slowed the crankbait bite down. Most of the fish are being caught on Jewel Football Jigs or 8" – 14" Texas rigged plastic worms in heavy cover. Look for brush piles near deep water on main lake and secondary points in larger creek arms to be holding most of the fish. Work the brush pile thoroughly with both baits from several angles to draw strikes. The bite has been slow but the rewards have been great, a lot of better size fish have been coming out of the brush if you slow down and work each pile methodically.
White River: The White River continues to have the best topwater action on the lake. It is short lived both early and late but it is a blast while it lasts. Get on the water before daybreak if you want to take advantage of the action, look for gravel flats and points to have most of the fish. Sammies, Spooks and Pop-R's have been the most productive baits. Once the sun comes up the bite transitions to a Jewel Football Jig or Carolina Rig; creature baits have been the most effective lures with beavers and brush hogs catching most of the fish. Work both baits slowly along the bottom on gravel points from shallow to deep to draw strikes.
