Branson: Fish continue to hold shallower than normal in the Branson area. Fishing guide trips have been very good concentrating on gravel points and flats with drop shot rigged Chompers or Tightlines UV finesse and drop shot worms. The majority of fish have been holding in the 22' – 30' range tight to the bottom or any wood cover. Smallmouth have been feeding even shallower early and late in the day; look for signs of shad being chased close to the bank and throw Jewel spider jigs and Squirrel heads with finesse worms. Most of the fish have been holding less than 10' deep until the sun comes up.
Kimberling City: The mid lake continues to be very productive, even more so than around Branson. Fishing guide trips have been producing both numbers and quality by adjusting to conditions as the day progresses. Early there has been a great shallow bite on gravel flats and point on the main lake and in larger creek arms. Jewel Squirrel head with small creature baits or finesse worms have been the ticket less than 10' deep. As the sun comes up move out on the same gravel and use drop shot a rigged finesse worm. Look for any wood or brush in the 25' – 30' range to hold the majority of the fish.
James River: Rain toward the end of last week has improved the fishing on the James River. Water color has stained a bit and fish have moved shallower here than in the mid lake or Branson. Fishing guide trips have been producing numbers of fish on small shallow crankbaits like Bandit 100 or 200 series in shad colors; work the crankbaits close to the bank around wood cover to be effective. Buzzbaits have been producing as well especially early in the morning or as the sun sets, the flatter the bank the better, any wood cover on a flat deserves three or four casts.
White River: The lightly stained water of the White River is still providing the best topwater action on the lake. Sammies, spooks and pop-r's have all been producing on gravel flats and points on the main lake and in the larger creek arms. Watch for surfaces activity to find active fish. Jewel spider jigs and Squirrel heads continue to be effective as well; just like in Branson fishing guides have been successful less than 10' deep on mixed gravel and rock points. As the sun rises above the trees move out a little deeper and throw Jewel football jigs with J – Tail trailers or Carolina rigged creature baits. Most of the fish will move to 20' – 25' deep and hold in and around any wood or rock cover on these slick banks.
