Branson: Fishing guide trips have been very productive over the past week in Branson, fishing guides have been targeting fish both shallow and deep throughout the lower end. Shallow fishing has been primarily on gravel and mixed gravel and rock points; look for smallmouth to be holding less than ten feet deep early and the day and target them with Spooks, Sammies and other topwater baits. As the sun comes up these same fish will slide out to about 10' – 15' deep and can be caught on Tightlines UV Bill Lowen tubes or Chompers ultra tubes. Spotted bass are still holding between 25' – 35' deep on these same gravel points and flats and can be caught with a drop shot rig and Tightlines finesse worms.
Kimberling City: The mid lake area is holding fish just as shallow as Branson. Fishing guides has been targeting the back of larger creeks with spinnerbaits, buzz baits and Tight Lines UV Big Fat Jerk soft jerkbaits. Largemouth have been following shad looking for nutrients into the back of creeks especially after a rain. The dock bite has improved over the past week as well; look for larger community docks on gravel and mixed gravel / rock points and pitch Jewel Eakins and Pro Spider jigs to shady areas to draw strikes.
James River: The James River has lower temperatures and better color than just about any other area of the lake. With that in mind fish in the James are much further along into a fall transition than in Branson. Fishing guides have been targeting shallow wood cover with a variety of baits. Early and late in the day a buzz bait or Pop R has been tough to beat around laydowns and in stump fields. As the day wears on these same spots will hold fish, switch to a Jewel Eakins jig or a Texas rigged Tightlines Beaver and concentrate on shady areas around the cover.
White River: It's almost a matter of determining how you want to "catch ‘em" on the White River right now. Fish can be caught from the bank out to 50' deep based on how you fish. The shallow bite is similar to the in Branson, fishing guides have been using Tightlines UV and Chompers tubes on gravel flats and points. Cedar trees are holding fish on steeper banks and can be caught on spinnerbaits and topwater worked through the top of the tree. Drop shot rigged Tightlines and Chompers worms or A Webb tail spoon fished on gravel points from 25' – 40' deep will produce some nice spotted bass.
