Branson: Fishing guides have still been catching fish despite the cold front that passed through over the weekend. Water temperatures throughout the lake have dropped with an average around 65 once the sun comes up and warms the surface. Smallmouth remain shallow on gravel points in Branson, fishing guides have had the best success with Tightlines UV and Chompers tubes fished from 5' – 15' deep, moving deeper as the sun rises. Topwater baits are still producing with better fish coming around cedar trees on Spooks, Sammies and Pop-R's.
Kimberling City: The Kimberling City area has a great shallow bite just like Branson. Fishing guides have had success on tubes and topwater in the mid lake as well but on windy days a medium running crankbait is hard to beat. Storm wiggle warts and Bandit 300's have both been very effective. Look for points and pocket with a mix of gravel and ledge rock to be the best locations, if these areas have wind blowing in on them they will be holding fish shallow all day long.
James River: The dirty water in the James River has been holding fish shallow for over a month. Most of the fish are still holding on shallow wood cover or boat docks less than 10' deep. On windy days Branson fishing guides have been doing well with Chompers spinnerbaits, Buzz Baits and shallow running crankbaits run into the cover to draw strikes. On calm days slower presentations like Jewel Jigs, Tightlines and Chompers tubes and Jewel Squirrel heads with Tightlines beavers have all been effective.
White River: The White River continues to be the most diverse part of the lake. Just like in Branson fishing guides have been doing very well with Tightlines UV and Chompers tubes on shallow gravel points and flats. Windy days are productive with medium crankbaits just like in the mid lake area. The topwater bite has been very strong around cedar trees from Baxter through Eagle Rock. There is still a decent deep bite using drop shot rigged Tightlines and Chompers worms, on clam days target drop offs on main lake gravel points on the main lake.
