Branson: Fishing guide trips have moved deeper over the past week on the lower end, while there are still several fish feeding shallow the most consistent bite has moved to deep water. Schools of shad have migrated into the back of larger creek arms on the lower end and in turn large schools of spotted bass have followed. Webb Tail spoons, drop shot rigs with Tightlines UV and Chompers worms and ice baits have all been producing when fish are found. Look for most of the fish to be in and around tree tops around 40' deep near the creek channel. The overall depth of water doesn't matter, most the fish will be suspended from 30' – 45' deep.
Kimberling City: The shallow bite is much stronger in the mid lake area; on windy days a wiggle wart will continue to put fish in the boat and on calm days a Jewel Pro Spider jig has been the ticket. When throwing a wart concentrate on steeper rocky banks and make 45 degree casts and maintain bottom contact all the way back to the boat. It is important to reach the bank on every cast, there are several fish holding as shallow as one foot deep. The jig bite has been on these same banks off "the first ledge", work the jig slowly along the bottom to draw strikes. The dock bite has improved on larger commercial docks particularly on secondary points in the larger creek arms.
James River: The shallow bite has remained strong on the James River. Most Branson fishing guides are finding the bite is better on sunny days particularly in the afternoon once the shallows have had a chance to warm. Shallow cover is the key to finding fish, look for isolated trees, stumps and laydowns to be the most productive areas and make multiple casts with a variety of baits to draw strikes. Shallow crankbaits and buzzbaits have been effective if there is wind hitting the bank and jigs or Texas rigged tubes are better if it is calm.
White River: Branson fishing guides continue to catch fish on a variety of patterns in the White River. The deep bite we mentioned last week has gotten much stronger and is becoming a dominate pattern; much like in Branson fishing guides are targeting tree tops around 40' deep along the channels in major creek arms with Webb Tail spoons and Tightlines UV Worms on drop shot rigs. The crankbait bite is not as strong for numbers as it was last week but the quality has improved greatly. Look for chunk rock banks and cast the bait to the bank at a 45 degree angle and maintain bottom contact back to the boat.
