Branson: Colder air temperatures and short days have driven water temps into the upper 40's in Branson. Fishing guides continue to have success fishing shallow with Tight Lines and Chompers tubes but the deep bite has begun to outshine the shallow bite. Most of the fish being caught deep are coming out of deep pockets and toward the back of larger creeks 35' – 55' deep. Fish have been holding tight to the bottom but will rise to feed on schools of shad as they pass though. Chompers Webb Tail spoons and drop shot rigs with Tightlines UV finesse worms have been the ticket.
Kimberling City: There is still a strong shallow bite in the mid lake area with both numbers and quality being caught less than 10' deep. Wiggle warts and other crankbaits have been very good on windy and cloudy days, fish have been moving up on rocky and mixed gravel and rock banks to feed on shad and crawfish. Jerkbaits have begun to produce well in these same areas; McSticks, pointers and Vision 110 baits have all been effective particularly on rocky main lake points. There is a deep bite in the mid lake as well, the same patterns working on the lower end will work in the mid lake.
James River: It is interesting to watch the transition over the past couple of weeks in the James River. For the most part fish have remained shallow on the James but there has been a deep bite forming as the water cools. The shallow bite is primarily with jerkbaits and jigs; look for rocky transitions to be the most effective areas and work either a Jewel Pro Spider jig or jerkbait of choice around wood cover from 3' – 15' deep. The deep bite is similar to Branson, fishing guides have been targeting shad in deep pockets and toward the back of creek arms with Chompers Webb Tail Spoons and Tightlines UV finesse worms from 25' – 35' deep on the bottom.
White River: The White River continues to be the most diverse portion of the lake. Branson fishing guides have been doing well in the Baxter area targeting deep fish with Webb Tail Spoons and Drop Shot rigs. Look for birds and in turn shad to help you find the fish on the main lake and in the creek arms. Jerkbaits have begun to put fish in the boat a little more consistently around Campbell Point and Big Creek, shallow windy points with deep water close by have been the most effective areas to fish. Further upstream a Jewel Pro Spider jig worked around wood cover from 10'-15' deep on gravel rock transitions will produce numbers and quality.
