Branson: Cold nights and short days have dropped water temperatures all over the lake including Branson. Fishing guides continue to catch fish both shallow and deep on the lower end with largemouth and smallmouth coming shallow and spotted bass coming in deep water. The shallow bite is still on a wiggle wart and jerkbait; look for rock and mixed rock and gravel points with deep water close by to be the most productive areas and work both baits from the bank to 10' deep to draw strikes. The deep bite has been in the middle of creek arms where fish are relating to shad; find the schools of shad and the fish will not be far away. Drop shot rigs with Tightlines UV and Chompers worms have been the most productive presentations.
Kimberling City: The shallow bite remains strong in the mid lake area as well. Branson fishing guides have been having success with wiggle warts and jerk baits here too. Rocky points and channel swing banks in creek arms are producing some very nice fish, more or less parallel the bank with either bait. The deep bite is just starting to come on in the Kimberling City area, Table Rock spotted bass can be caught around tree tops near creek channels from 25' – 45' deep wherever shad are present.
James River: The colder weather has impacted the James River more than any other area of the lake. Morning water temperatures have been as low as 45 degrees in shallow dirty water moving fish into deeper water close by until afternoon. Jewel football jigs have been very effective particularly in the mid James; look for deep drops from shallow points and flats to be the most productive spots. Umbrella rigs are starting to produce in the James as well; steep banks with isolated hardwood timber seem to be the ticket. Best baits on the rig have been Tightlines UV Big Jerk and Broken Back Jerk in anything that resembles a shad.
White River: The White River continues to be a favorite spot among Branson fishing guides right now. If you want to catch fish deep they are there, if you want fish shallow no problem, a little something in between sure thing. The deep bite has been in the larger creek arms with a drop shot rig tipped with Tightlines UV and Chompers worms; look for the schools of shad and you will find the fish. The shallow bite is much like the rest of the lake; wiggle warts and jerkbaits fished on mixed rock and rocky points near deep water look for fish to stay shallow all day long. The in between bite has been with a football jig, on cold calm mornings a Jewel PB&J football jig worked around drop offs from 10 – 20' deep has been producing some very nice fish.
