Branson: Fishing guides are starting to see a definite transition throughout the lake, warmer days and warm rain have raised water surface temperatures and fish have begun to make a move to shallow water. While there are still a few fish holding deep on the lower end the best fishing continues to be shallow with a variety of baits; Jewel football jigs, SPRO and Megabass jerkbaits and Wiggle Warts have been the most consistent offerings. Most of the fish have been holding around 10' – 20' deep on transition areas where steeper banks change to gravel. Any wood cover in these areas has been a plus.
Kimberling City: Just like in Branson fishing guides have had much more success fishing shallow versus deep in the Kimberling City area. The Top bait has been a Jewel 5/8 oz. football jig in either PB&J or watermelon candy both matched with a Tightlines UV jig trailer. Look for fish to be around 15' deep on mixed rock and gravel points and transition areas. On windy days a SPRO or Megabass jerkbait is the ticket, look for points that have wind blowing directly on them to be the best locations and fish the bait as shallow as 4' deep to draw strikes.
James River: Shallow patterns dominate the James River as well. Branson fishing guides have been keying on shallow wood cover with Jewel flippin jigs with J-Tail trailers and Squirrel head jigs with Tightlines finesse worms. Look for transition areas in the river to be holding the bulk of the fish in the river as well. The umbrella rig bite is still strong in the James, most Branson fishing guides report fewer numbers but much better quality on the rig versus last week. The water has more stain with the recent rains so darker colors with a bright accent have been the ticket.
White River: The White River has had a strong shallow bite as well; Jewel jigs, SPRO jerkbaits and Wiggle Warts have all been very productive from Baxter through Shell Knob. Branson fishing guides have been concentrating on transition areas on the main lake and in the larger creek arms. The best colors on the jerkbait have been Norman Flake and Blue Bandit while watermelon candy with a green pumpkin J-Tail has been best with the football jig.
