Branson: Fishing guide trips on the lower end continue to be a struggle the shad kill has begun to fade and fish will get back into a more normal pattern soon, but until we are a week or so beyond the shad kill the bite will be tough around the dam. Est area on the lower end has been Long Creek; Jewel jigs, stickbaits and Umbrella rigs have been putting most of the fish in the boat, look for steeper banks to be the best areas and the last channel swing in a creek has been key. Jewel Pro Spider jigs less than 10' deep have been the most consistent bite.
Kimberling City: The mid lake area has remained as tough as Branson. Fishing guides have been getting a few bites on Jewel jigs and stickbaits but Kimberling City is still the toughest area of the lake. Water temperatures remain in the upper 30's and low 40's and the shad kill has continued. With warmer weather forecast through the end of this week into next the mid lake should turn around toward the end of next week.
James River: Despite having some of the coldest water on the lake the James River has been producing a few fish. Branson fishing guides have done well by running well above Cape Fair to the upper reaches of Flat creek and the James. Look for fish to be on channel swing banks, holding close to gravel wash outs and broken rock. The best technique has been with a Jewel Pro Spider jig in brown purple flash matched with a Tightlines UV Green small beaver. Work the jig SLOWLY along the bottom from the bank through the channel and back up to the shallow side.
White River: The best bite on the lake continues to be in the upper reaches of the White River; Roaring River, Owl Creek, Rock Creek and the Kings River are easily out producing the rest of the lake. Most of the fish have been coming from midway back to the very back of these larger creek arms. Jewel Pro Spider jigs have been the ticket here as well, stickbaits will produce on rocky secondary points. Umbrella rigs will produce some very nice fish on channel end points as well, look for areas where the channel breaks down to smaller rock and gravel and make long casts. Allow the bait to sink to around 10' – 15' deep and retrieve with a steady slow pace.
