Madison River Continues to Fish Well

Brian McGeehan
June 10, 2011
Bozeman - Freshwater Fishing Report

The Madison is still fishing well in spite of the big run off that is currently underway in Montana. Madison river fishing is most productive below Hebgen Dam and Quake Lake. Beaver and Cabin come in between the lakes and put in some mud, but there is always some visibility and the fish keep eating. Big ugly nymphs like girdle bugs and san juan worms are the ticket.

Bozeman Fishing Forecast:

Fishing should remain good near Hebgen and Quake lake during run off. The float section of the Madison will become a good option in early July. The Lower Madison will be high but should start fishing well again once flows drop below 4500cfs, probably in 2 weeks.

Target Species:

Trout
