Portsmouth - Saltwater Fishing Report

Mixed Striper fishing this week, on Monday there was a big storm coming through, and the fishing was just plain slow. My crew and I decided it was best to call it a day after a couple of hours and reschedule for another day. This was the first time in over 6 years of charters that I agreed it was the best thing to do. Within 15 minutes of getting back to the dock the sky opened up and it started to pour with lightning and thunder only a few minutes behind. It was a good decision to end our trip. The fish must have known the bad weather was coming.
By the next day the weather was better and the fishing improved with 20 or more fish on our 4 hour trips and 30 plus on our 6 hour trips. This was a great improvement over Monday for sure.
There is still a lot of natural bait at the mouth and in the river, which has caused the stripers to be more finicky than last year. Still looking forward to 40-50 fish trips. We have had them in the past hopefully they will start again real soon.
Tight lines, Capt. Joel.
