Slow start to Fluke season in Raritan Bay

Capt. Karl McKenna
June 1, 2010
Sandy Hook - Saltwater Fishing Report

May 31. Got out late today for the first Fluke trip of the year. Lots of boat traffic because of the holiday weekend kept us off the usual early season Fluke spots. The drifting conditions were not very good until afternoon when the wind started to blow. We started hitting the Fluke steady but most of the Fluke caught were shorts in the 17 to 17 1/2 inch range. A slow start to the Fluke season, but there was action and the water is warming, so I think it will get better soon.

Sandy Hook Fishing Forecast:

With the waters warming and the amount of short fish out there, I think the fishing will pickup soon and lead to a good Fluke season overall.

It also looks like the Big Bass will be staying around for a little while longer because there are no signs that the great fishing is slowing down at all.

Target Species:

Stripers and Fluke

More Fishing Reports:

Light tackle sport fishing for Stripers, Blues, Weakfish and Fluke in the Sandy Hook NJ area.
