San Juan River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone,
The river is flowing at 900cfs and the water visibility is 5-6 feet or more. Lots of moss depending on how many waders there is in the upper areas. The catch and release, cable hole, and upper flats has lots of great fish cruising around but being very picky about eating. Size #26 iron gray bodied, black headed midge pupa's and pearl flash winged midges have been working for me. The fish are watching your leader,s and presentation. You have to make a good clean drag free drift's to get bit. Watch the fish, and see if they look at your flies. or are they moving out of the way as your flies approach. If they are moving out of the lane then their seeing your stuff and it is not right. Fouled flies, dirty or tangled flies. piled leader. Lighter leader and tippet might do the trick to. If there looking but not taking your presentation, then something minor is not right. Fly has moss or not the right size, color. Usually it is something simple. If there moving away from it it is major. Bad drift, to heavy leader, tippet.
The Texas hole had hundreds of huge trout stocked yesterday. 4-8 lb rainbows and browns.
It will take a few days for those fish to get with the bite but it will be good when they do.
The Texas hole down to the take out has been good with the above midge patters early am and beatis in early to mid afternoon. We took 7 out of 8 nice trout sight fishing Wednesday am in the T-hole using the iron gray flash winged midge. Some PMD's coming off beatis bend top of death row in the afternoon. Big red larva's #16 and gray foam wings,Johnny flashers #22
Tight Line's to all,
Capt. Mark
