San Juan River - Freshwater Fishing Report

The water flow is 4000cfs and will stay that way until late April when the flow will be increased to 5000 cfs. The water is off-colored with the visibility around 1-2 feet. The fishing from the boats has been fair to good. Some days we work hard for the hook-ups, and some days the bite is better. The lake thermo - Cline is turning and hopefully will settle down soon. The lake should turn on by the April full moon for PIKE on the Fly, the Small mouth and everything else should be waking up. I was on the Lake today and the water temp was 42 at eleven am. Come on spring and lets warm up. When the water temp at the lake warms up into the 50's the bite will be on. IF YOU WADE AT THIS FLOW BE VERY CAREFUL and use wading belts. staffs and life flotation belts. Feel for bottom with staff, if no bottom No Step. The current will get you and there will be no second chance. The water temp is around 42. You will be in Severe Hypothermia with minutes and beyond help.
