San Juan River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Updated: Jan 26, 2004.
Hello Everybody, The river is flowing around 272 cfs, river clarity is around three to four feet. The river is fishing good, and the crowds have gone, at least for the next few weeks. Off Season rates are still in affect. Lots of great fishing in the riffles. Dry fly fishing is great in the upper braids stretches using size #26 olive & brown midges. Large black midge cluster pattern working good,. and #18 black griffins nat when the midges are clustering. The beatis hatch has been good when the conditions are right.. The lower part of the river is fishing fair to good .Depending on how cold the night is. The colder the night, the tougher the fishing. A few degree water temperature change will make those fish cop an negative attitude. Try deeper water or in the upper waters, where the water temp. is more consistent. Streamer fishing is working good using wooly boogers, or zonker patterns. Tight Lines until next time. Mark
