San Juan River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Hello Everybody, The river is flowing around 253 cfs, river clarity is around six feet. The river is fishing good, . Lots of great fishing in the riffles. Dry fly fishing is good in the upper braids stretches using size #26 black or brown midges. Large black midge cluster pattern working good,. and #18 black griffins nat when the midges are clustering. The beatis hatch has been good when the conditions are right.. The lower part of the river is fishing good .Depending on how cold the night is. The colder the night, the tougher the fishing. A few degree water temperature change will make those fish cop an negative attitude. Hopefully the night time temps will start rising. Try deeper water or in the upper waters, where the water temp. is more consistent. Streamer fishing is working good using bunny leeches, wooly boogers, or zonker patterns. UPPER FLATS TO TEXAS HOLE Fishing has been great in the braids and the upper flats water. The main channel has been beat up by fishermen over fishing. The water flow is low so everybody is able to fish both sides of the river. This area is over fished, and the end result is that the fishing is slow. There is a lot better fishing in the upper flats ,& braids.
