San Juan River - Freshwater Fishing Report
Hello everyone,
Fishing report updated 12/10/ 04
The river flow is around 250 cfs, the river clarity is 4-5 feet. The upper river is fishing good.. Off -season rates are in affect now. Gift certificates are available. The fish are eating leeches, eggs and midges. Black or brown size 6-10. Golden nugget or Oregon cheese egg patterns have been working good.. The fish are spawning, so please watch were you step and fish. Please leave the spawning pairs alone. Sight fishing is good in the upper flats, and braids. The Nymphing has been good with midges in the am, and a small beatis hatch in the afternoon. Technical tip. Try agitating leeches, and egg patterns in slow water, using a hard down steam mend hopping the indicator 2-3" inches with a fair amount of weight. After you mend be ready for a hard strike.

UPPER FLATS TO TEXAS HOLE: Fishing has been good in the braids and the upper flats water. The main channel is still being over fished. The fishing has improved in the main channel. The river flow increase helped this area, and the braids.. The bottom line about fishing the main channel is be prepared too share. It is always crowed any more..

TEXAS HOLE to end of the quality waters
This area of the river is fishing fair. The fish are starting to move into the deep slow water, and the overall report is that the lower river us affected by cold night temps. The colder the night the slower the fishing.
