San Juan River - Freshwater Fishing Report

The river flow is around 520cfs. The clarity is 3-4 feet. The upper area has been hot early am depending on how strong the midge hatch is. There has been a black midge first then a gray midge #22-24 hatch with a few beatis #20 in early pm. Gray or black zebra midge, black or gray Crystal flash midge #22-24. Gray and black or black and gray midge pupa, #22-24. Dries that have been working Black Midge cluster or griffins gnat #16-24, or black or gray midge #26. The main channel, T-hole, and below is still fishing good with beatis patterns and also the above midge patterns. the beatis patterns that are fishing good for me is Pheasant tail, flash back pheasant tails,gray or brown rs 2, wd-40, fluff beatis and gray or chocolate foam wings #20-22. Dry fly action has been good depending on weather conditions. Parachute Adams, Gray parachute Adams, Gary or olive sparkle comparadun #20-22.

San Juan River Fishing Forecast:

The water will continue to clear, this should just improve the dry fly action. The ant fall has not happened on the river yet, don't know if it will. I will be using 6x tippet soon for nymphing.
