San Juan River - Freshwater Fishing Report

High water flow of 5000 cfs is here until 06/19/08 when the water flow will start be reduced down to 500 cfs on 07/02/08. Wading is very dangerous right now. Wade only if you know the river at this flow. I suggest using a wading staff and wearing a PFD. Use your staff and if you feel No Bottom then NO STEP! One mistake might be your last.
The Fishing from the boats is good as usual. The flies of choice is San Juan worms #16-18, gray scuds#20-22.White myssis shrimp#22, red larva's, bunny and lace leeches of different colors. #16-22, and of coarse the fish impaler, red or orange sparkle worms. There has been some midge and beatis hatches.
Navajo Lake gas been hot fishing for Pike, Small Mouth Bass, and the crappie bite is on. The carp bite is starting.
San Juan River Fishing Forecast:

Hopefully the river will be clearing soon and that should get the fish looking up. It would be great if the fish would start eating bugs instead of moss. The best wade fishing to be had will be the last week in June and the first week of July. There is a lot of area that has not been fished in months and those fish are fat and sassy, and most of all,UN-Educated. This is the best chance at some of the river's biggest hogs. So if you can do it, be here. I know that I'll be on the river, working or playing.
Navajo lake has been fishing awesome for big Smallies and pike. The crappie bite is on with lots of 10-12 inch fish caught.
Target Species:

Trophy Rainbow and Brown Trout. Pike ,Bass, Carp,
