San Juan River - Freshwater Fishing Report

The river flow is around 500cfs, and the clarity is 3-4 feet deep, lots of moss. Wear bug spray, the Deer flies are really bad. The fishing has slowed down some but over-all still fishing good. The upper wade areas has been fishing best. The midge hatch has been really strong in the upper river in the am. Mainly olive or gray midge larva and pupa's, and emerger's. The beatis {Blue Wing Olives]hatch has slowed down in the T-hole on down. There was a decent hatch pm yesterday in the T-Hole, the dry fly action was good. The lower river T-Hole down to the gravel pit is fishing slow in the am. The ant fall was last Monday and it was pretty good. I had Clinton Mangus, owner of Mangus Outfitters from the Jackson Hole, Wyoming area. Anyways, Clinton was very good at presenting the ant. Between his partner Tony and Him, they probably hooked a couple dozen or so in the three hours the bite was on. The largest landed being around 4-5 lbs of tough fighting San Juan River Rainbow trout.
The lake is still fishing good to fair for bass. The carp bite is hot. Still picking up some decent northern pike.
Tight Lines to All,
