Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report
My 2011 lake season has just been super. We are having some great weather and great fishing. What better time to get outdoors and wet a line.
Brown trout continue to be our target of choice and conditions are about perfect.
Fish down 30 to 70 feet with Dreamweaver and stinger spoons in green glow, black and silver have been good. Colors like, the gator, hitman, tuxedo, mongoose, diehard, and the dolphin patterns will all take fish.
There is no real hot spot, just look for bait and temperature in the 58 to 62 degree range and hammer it out.
If the browns slow down the lake trout fishing is just as good. Troll the bottom in 120 to 130 FOW and run some high rods in the 60 to 100 foot range and you will be happy.
Kings have been very scarce and the guys going offshore are finding one or two if they are lucky. They should be showing back up in a week or two.
The walleye action is fair on Oneida Lake right now, although they are not as schooled as they have been. This means you will work a bit harder taking longer drifts. Fish in 25-38 ft. of water and look across the soft bottom. North of Buoy 109 midway to the north shore and in front of Lakeport at the first drop-offs are good places to take the drift. Three-quarter ounce jigs, particularly black/purple, tipped with a nightcrawler and blade baits are working well.
Sandy Pond fishing has been good for bluegills, perch, bass and walleye.
