Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Monday January 9, 2012.
It seems like the only thing that is inconsistent around here is the weather.
For the past more than several weeks the temperatures have bounced from the 50's to the 20's and there doesn't seem to be any end in sight.
The temperature of Lake Ontario is still in the low 40's and here it is the second full week of January.
With the fluctuation of temperature, ice just starts to form and then a warm-up comes along and we get to start all over.
The best report of Perch fishing in our area seems to be coming from the Oak and guys drifting through the area of the yacht club.
As far as the cold water species are concerned, I would have to say that Johnson Creek seems to be the hot spot from the dam in Lyndonville all the way north to Lake Ontario for Steelhead/Rainbow trout with an occasional Brown trout in the mix.
Oak Orchard, Marsh Creek and Sandy Creek are holding their own with good Steelhead/Rainbow trout and Brown trout fishing.
There are still reports of an occasional Atlantic salmon being taken on the Oak but you really have to work for them.
Until we get some extended cold weather, I don't expect any get changes in any of the fishing patterns.
Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
