Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Monday, April 30, 2012.
The cold and rainy weather of the past week has tended to slow things down on the tributaries within Orleans County.
Now that the Erie Canal is completely filled in our area, good catches of Rock Bass are starting to be reported.
Fair catches of Bullhead are being taken on both the lower part of Johnson Creek and also on Lake Alice.
At Point Breeze Perch are still being taken right at the Point along with an occasional Steelhead/Rainbow trout.
Thank you to all of the volunteers that participated in the Oak Orchard River clean-up and tree planting yesterday.
Also thank you for all the helped with the loading of Chinook salmon into the pens this past week.
Just a reminder that these fish need to be fed multiple times each day.
Please stop by Lake Breeze Marina and sign up for feeding times.
On Lake Ontario along the Coast of Orleans County, fishing has been nothing short of excellent.
The best fishing has occurred in the 50 to 80 feet of water range for a great mixed bag of Chinook salmon, Coho salmon, Lake trout and an occasional Steelhead/Rainbow trout.
Most of the action has been on the downriggers, lead lines and dipsy divers.
Colors range from black and silver spoons to white flashers with either blue or green flies behind them and spoons with a green pattern to them.
With the weather improving throughout the week, fishing should just keep getting better.
Finally a reminder that both Northern Pike and Walleye seasons open this coming Saturday, May 5, 2012.
Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
