Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report
Today is July 2, 2012.
The hot and dry weather of the past week or so is taking its toll on inland fishing in Orleans County.
One report has the temperature on the bottom of the Erie Canal at 71 degrees, a little above what most fish are comfortable in.
It seem like the most active fish on the inland waters is still Bass.
On the "Oak" from the point to the dam, and on Lake Alice, Bass catches have been very good.
Lake Alice at the Waterport Bridge is producing some great numbers of Bluegill and at night good numbers of Crappie are being caught.
Surprisingly there are still some good catches of Perch being reported on the "Oak" at the Point.
Rock Bass catches at the bridges area of the "Oak" are holding their own.
Some Walleye are being taken on Glenwood Lake at the fast water area.
On Lake Ontario fishing is still very good, just a little farther out than earlier.
Good catches of Steelhead/Rainbow trout and Chinook salmon are being reported all along the Orleans County shoreline area around the 28 line.
Riggers set at 40 to 80 feet down, dipsys 180 to 220 feet back and 400 copper rigs are taking most of the action.
Some of the favorite set ups seem to be 42-42 second rigs on the dipsys, Mag. Gators on the deep rigs and on the copper, Mixed Veggies, Orange Crushes and Lucky spoons on the higher rigs.
Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
