Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report
Today is Monday July 30, 2012.
First congratulations to the 11 people who finished in the top 20 spots in the different divisions of the Summer Loc Derby, especially Andrew Spaulding for his 1st place Brown trout in the youth division and Jim Shambaugh for his 2nd place Brown trout in the adult division.
Fishing on Lake Ontario off the shores of Orleans County has never been better.
Average sizes of Chinook salmon, Brown trout and Steelhead/Rainbow trout are above average for this time of year with most fishermen enjoying their daily catch limit.
The rain of last week has helped settle things down into more normal summer conditions.
There are fish scattered from 100 feet of water all the way out to past the 33 line.
The bigger Kings seem to be from the 31 to 33 line with good mixed bags of fish from the 31 line on in.
Riggers from 60 to 80 feet down and dipsys 180 to 220 feet back seem to be having the most action.
Some of the patterns mentioned are Gators, Glo purples, Purple clowns, 42 second gold and Ghosts.
On the inland waters of Orleans County Bass fishing seems to be hot on all of the waters.
On Lake Alice Bluegills are being taken in very good size and numbers from the Waterport Bridge.
Glenwood Lake is producing good numbers and sizes of Catfish along with Carp, Bass and Rock bass.
Back on Lake Ontario, the near shore weed beds seem to be overrun with Gobies at the present so Perch and Bass fishing is slow.
Finally don't forget that the Orleans County Rotary Club Derby starts this Saturday August 4th and runs through Sunday August 19th.
Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
